Childcare

In our society of working mothers and fathers childcare often becomes an issue. There are several options that we can choose from.

Most neighborhoods have a few people that do home daycare. This is sometimes preferred to placing the child in a daycare center. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this choice. One advantage may be that the child will get more individual attention if he is in a home daycare program. Most states limit a licensed home childcare center to six children. This can mean less exposure to sickness and diseases for your child so you may lose less time off work due to his illness. A drawback to this kind of childcare is that if the person running the daycare has an emergency there may not be anyone to fill in and you will be wondering who is going to take care of your child. You may even lose time from work because you have to stay with him.

Another option to childcare is a daycare center. Most daycare centers accept children of all ages from six weeks up to about thirteen years of age. There are advantages and disadvantages to this kind of care just as there are with home daycare centers. One advantage of this kind of childcare is that you know it will be dependable.

It is a business that hires enough workers to take care of the children if someone has to be out of work. It will usually not be necessary to worry about a back up plan for someone to take care of your child. A disadvantage to daycare centers is that you usually have to pay even if your child does not attend. Daycare centers are a business with a budget and they cannot meet their payroll and other expenses if they have children on the books that are not paying. State laws mandate that there is one adult per a certain number of children. If the daycare center has you child on the books then they must have enough workers to cover for him. You may lose your child’s place if you do not pay and sometimes this means paying for childcare even if you are not working.

If you need childcare for your school aged children you might want to check with the school that they attend. Many schools now have after school programs for children who would otherwise have to be home alone in the afternoon. Most of these school programs are very good programs. They offer the children snacks and play games or study with them. This is a good opportunity for your child to have help with his homework. The after school program is usually staffed by either teachers or parapros. It is usually possible to pay only for the days that your child stays if you need to use the after school program.

When you are looking for childcare make sure that you check out all of your options. If you are considering a home daycare it is very important to check out all references to be sure your child will be well taken care of.

Childcare

In the modern society the role of childcare is not given only to the parents as in the past when the most important role and influence was that of mom and dad, but also to the extended family, nannies or crèches. The period of childhood is known as the period between 0 and 8 years, when the child is taught the first important things about life, society and education. It’s a vital period for the adult life when the children find out what is good or bad and make an idea what they want to become when they are big. Now is the time to discover how to act in the society, how to interact with the others, how to express their feelings towards things they like or dislike and why not, this is the time when they start to make the first steps towards their dreams.

As many specialists agree, the most important influence in the childcare process should be the one of the parents. The healthiest environment to raise a child is the one with two parents who love each other and express their affectivity towards the child also. The baby should know from the first moments of his life that he is safe and loved, and the ones who can give him these comfortable feelings are his parents.

It is also true that in this century where the key to success and survival is the money, the parents who can’t afford to leave their jobs to stay home with their children, have many alternatives when it comes to child care. If they are lucky and the grandparents wish and can take care of their child, they can choose this as the best alternative. In this way the baby is raised in a familiar environment with the same believes (most of the times) and with the same caring love. In this way, you as a parent can feel safe and confident when it comes to leaving your child on someone else’s hands.

The other method of childcare is the one when the parents hire a nanny to stay with him during the working hours. It is in a way very comfortable, but it can be costly and risky sometimes. You have to make a very strict selection and you have to look up for security measures to make sure you leave your baby on good hands. It is good nowadays that there are certain companies who train the ladies who become nannies or babysitters. They can offer you a certain confidence and relief.

Last, but not least, are the crèches. Most of the parents who choose to take their children to a crèches think of the costs and also the impact this will have in social integration of their child. This is a safe place and it helps your child grow up faster (they are encouraged to do a lot of things alone) and make friends easier.

Even if you chose a way or another, you should think twice when making this kind of decision. Just keep in mind this is a very important and decisive period for your child so you should leave this in good hands. And don’t forget, even if the others help in this process, your role is the most important.
